First fish of the day. Felt good to be back to dry flies.
This stream was rather unremarkable. Guess I had unreasonable expectations. I was looking for a mountain brookie stream. This is a stocked location.
It was nice enough and yes, it did have streambred brookies but I guess the trampled banks, power bait and salmon eggs on the bank and stocked fish took away…
Now don't get me wrong. Stockers are fun to catch...I just was not looking for them in this stream.
And they all looked healthy and well fed.
In this pool, on the right side of the stump, there were stockers stacked up so tight it looked like a hatchery. Check out the bank! And, this is supposed to be…
We couldn't pass up catching one or two of those fish. Kinda looked like the fishing pond at the outdoor show...
And, there was a huge trout tucked under the log. No...I didn't even try to catch it. I settled for a couple little ones further out.
To my surprise...and delight...I did catch some streambred brookies. Why stock a stream that has so much wild trout potential???
There was a trout under the log at the right end. Brought him to a fly twice...but missed him both times. Looked like a nice fish too!
Even the fish that called this stream home were nice and fat.
I did use a nymph or two during the morning but most of the fish were caught on dry flies.
As one might expect, this run accounted for more than one brookie.
Just a sample of the ones I got in this run.
And another. Not big but big is not what brookie fishing is all about. Just beautiful and exciting.
And this 8 incher took a dry!
Yeah...guess I had a pretty good day.
In between these brookies, I caught a bunch of little junk fish. They wouldn't leave the fly alone.
Rainbows...all stocked...were about 12 to 14 inches long. Some jumped like a tarpon, not just once but 4-5 and 6 times. Amazing.
